INTRODUCTION OF POET:
John Milton is the greatest poet of his age. Paying a just tribute to the dominating personality of Milton, words worth, wrote the famous line. "The soul was like a star, and dwelt apart".
The poem form Samson Agonistes is taken from his great poetic drama "Samson Agonister" which is his best creation.
THEME:
In this poem John Milton describes the death of Samson, who had immense strength and had been blinded by his enemies. using his strength he pulled the main pillars of the great palace, on account of this roof fell down on the heads, killing all those who were present there and he was also killed there.
STYLE:
The poem is black verse. The sentences of the poem are lang and intricate. The verse is slow and heavy largely because the order of the words often deviated from that of normal speech. It is a great style of writing has a character all of his own.
LANGUAGE:
The language of the poem is really difficult. The words used are very difficult but serving the purpose of the poet in the best manner.
ELEMENTS OF THE VERSE:
Milton has brilliantly used similie. As the poem is of greek style, Therefore he has used long failed similie in the 25th line when Milton says "As with force of winds and water pent" when mountains trouble.
