Poet: Arther Hugh Clo ugh belong to the Victorian period. He is a prominent poet of the age. His importance as a poet lies mainly in the quality of his thoughts.
Theme: Clo ugh believes in optimism. He says that optimism is the key to success in all kinds of adventures. so we should make struggle in life without losing hope, at tast our efforts will being fruit.
Style: This is one of the greatest poems of Clo ugh. It is composed in tense style. It consists of four stanzas and each stanza has four lines. First line of each stanza is rhyming with the third and second line is rhyming with the fourth.
Elements of Verse:
In this poem the has not used directly similes and metaphors. The poem is full of images and symbols which make it impressive and memorable. In the first two stanzas we have a very beautiful image of battle field. The image of battle field symbolises the world, in which we are passing our lives like a soldier. In the fourth waves are an image of man's continuous struggle. In the fourth stanza the image of rising comes before us. Sun produce light and light is a symbol of goodness, hope, optimism and betterment.
Language: The poet has used very simple, easy and understandable language. Through these simple words he has created music and melody in the poem.
